About
Damhead Nursery is located 6 miles south of Edinburgh and was established by Sue Gray in 2005. Sue is a qualified Landscape Architect with a wealth of experience, a passion for plants and a flair for design. She therefore understands the needs of the landscape industry and appreciates the importance of supplying quality stock to all customers. The team at the nursery concentrates on providing a personal service to the public whether they are online, via mail-order or at local farmers markets. Access to the nursery is now available for both trade customers and the public.
Damhead offers a wide range of beautiful trees, shrubs, climbers, fruit, topiary and herbaceous plants, ranging from 1 to 110 litre size pots in either amenity or retail grade. Bare root plants are available from late October to March. They also have a range of vegetable and bedding plants which are grown peat free with organic seed, although they are not yet certified as an organic nursery.
The majority of the nursery’s plants are grown without winter protection, making them suited to Scotland’s weather, as well as other parts of Britain. They encourage customers to discuss their planting sites as they are keen to ensure their plants are going to the right location, whether it’s wild, wet and windy for the north of Scotland or requires certain drought tolerance for more southern customers.
Sue enjoys working in conjunction with many landscape architects and garden designers, assisting with a practical approach on how to achieve their ambitions for their planting design work. The nursery also offers its own garden design service for private or commercial customers, including maintenance work. Various courses are run throughout the year, including landscape management and maintenance programmes, training fruit and growing your own vegetables.
