Merriments is a family nursery, owned by David Weeks, it opened in 1988 and is located next to a fabulous 4 acre garden. Today it offers a range of additional services from it’s licensed restaurant, landscaping service to wildlife centre. You can even book a wedding here too.
Merriments have a very established clientele who appreciate their good quality plants, excellent customer service from the friendly and knowledgeable staff and of course the beautiful gardens. The nursery stock a range of plants but their specialism is perennials which are grown on site.
The garden is used as a shop window for the nursery and is an ideal way to see the plants in their natural setting. The plants are well labelled, so take your notebook or camera so you can shortlist your favourites before you buy.
A visit here won’t be a quick one, so do allow several hours to explore the garden and nursery. You will probably want to visit their excellent restaurant which serves home cooked lunches, morning coffee and afternoon teas. All the facilities are here for a good day out.
A visit here is particularly useful to those new to gardening or anyone looking to revamp a border. Unlike some of the grander gardens, you can take an idea from Merriments and with planting and care advice from the staff, you can replicate the scheme in your own patch.
Merriments hold a range of events throughout the year from Christmas Craft Fairs to Jazz bands in the summer. They also run gardening workshops, such as planting hanging baskets.
One of the other more unusual features is the wildlife garden. Run by wildlife expert Dan Mead, they sell a huge range of feeders, nesting boxes and food for birds to badgers. With a range of walks and talks, they even have a hide so you can see for yourself the wide range of bird species that visit the gardens.
