About
Perrywood is an independent, family-owned garden centre and plant nursery in Essex. In 1974 Les and Mary Bourne started out as specialists growing seed potatoes and pick-your-own strawberries. Their son Alan, who worked for Colchester parks department, could see how the supermarkets were beginning to take over the strawberry market so he started to grow plants to sell from the front of the property. Alan and his wife Karin took over the business in 1983.
Today Perrywood is run by Alan and Karin and their son Simon. The garden centre and plant nursery now covers a 10 acre site in the beautiful Kelvedon valley. As the business has grown, they have adapted and expanded to provide a good customer experience with large covered areas so you can visit whatever the weather. You may also be tempted to pop in for a home cooked meal or afternoon tea in their modern coffee shop. Whether you are a plant enthusiast or want a day out with the family, Perrywood has a lot to offer; a good range of plants and products plus excellent customer service and modern facilities.
This is a plant nursery that grows quality plants on a large scale. Their modern on site plant production unit produces over three quarters of a million plants every year. They are particularly known for spring Primulas, annual bedding and basket plants, including more than 100 varieties of Fuchsia, and the Christmas cyclamen later in the year.
With more than 40 years of experience under their belt, the team produces great value, high quality plants all year round. They are proud of the large number of plants grown on site which are given the ‘Perrywood Grown’ symbol. The plant nursery is also known for their ‘grow your own’ fruit and vegetables, from kiwis to melons, including ten different varieties of chillies.
Plants have always been their passion and whilst they also now sell a great deal of related products for the garden and home, the huge range of plants is what impresses you.
